The Korean Embassy has unveiled a coach to handle the national taekwondo team to represent Uganda at the All-Africa Games in Ghana.

Kim Kwang Joo was introduced to the team by the second secretary to the Korean Embassy in Uganda Seunghee Yi who was accompanied by the Economic and Cultural Affairs official at the Embassy, Subin Park.

Yi said that the Korean government has had a long friendship with Uganda and Kwang is one of the many coaches they are sending to Uganda to prepare players for the games in Accra.

“The coach will handle the team for two years as per the original contract. Our target is to see Uganda win medals at the All-Africa Games, and we brought in a coach from the Kukkiwon TaeKwondo. I am happy that the team is doing well and will excel more with the introduction of Kwang,” noted Yi.

Marvin Baryaruha, the UTF president is optimistic Uganda’s name will appear in the All-Africa Games fixtures after they last represented the country in Maputo in 2013.

He said the National Council of Sports (NCS) is looking to take eight players to the games and Baryaruha is calling on sponsors to aid the team for a high-level training.

“We want more sponsorship. The team will be in residential training from next week and I know we shall reap medals,” noted Baryaruha.

The other coaches who will work with Kwang are Karim Mulwana, Isaac Kato, Fransis Owor and Bernard Mabonga.
