Police FC and NEC are firing on all cylinders as they battle it out on two fronts this season.

The Cops who are currently topping the standings (40 points) in the FUFA Big League are on the verge of returning to the Uganda Premier League, while NEC are among the five contenders in the topflight league.

However, the two sides face off in the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup on Wednesday) at Kavumba Recreation Ground.

Police will rely on their home advantage to pick up a result from the tricky side NEC. The forces side has not lost any of the last 11 games in all competitions.

Coach Simon Peter Mugerwa revealed that they are ready to suffer as long as they progress to the next round.

"We want to make sure we play to our best. We know NEC is a good team and we have also prepared ourselves well to face them. They may pose a threat to us but I feel we can still go on and pick a result from them. We need to build from the home advantage," noted Mugerwa.

Police defeated Soltilo Bright Stars 4-0 to reach the quarterfinals, while NEC beat Gaddafi 1-0.

NEC who have proved to be a hard nut to crack this season know that progressing to the next round gives them bragging rights and a chance to win some silverware.

Coach Hussein Mbalangu believes his side is ready to live up to the task.

"As a team, we are working hard to see that we perform well and progress to the next round. The Uganda Cup is a historical tournament and we shall fight for it. We have enough in our armory and so we are ready to take on the Police," stated Mbalangu.

In other quarterfinal ties, Pajule Lions will play Pakwach Young Stars in Pader on Saturday. On that same day, BUL will host KCCA at FUFA Technical Centre Njeru in the Buikwe district.

On Sunday, Kitara will face Vipers at Masindi Stadium.

This season’s prize money courtesy of Stanbic Bank and Kansai Plascon is sh180m with the winner walking away with sh50m. The quarterfinalists will get sh6m each, while the teams that finish in the round of 16 will go home with sh3m each. Those that will reach the round of 32 will earn sh2m each.

The winners of the Stanbic Uganda Cup represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup.
