Uganda’s performance improved upon last year’s display in the Oregon, where one gold and two bronze medals produced a 16th place finish on the table. In terms of medals, Uganda matched its all-time highest performance at the Championships from 2019, but on that occasion, the country finished in ninth place.

Victor Kiplangat’s gold medal in the men’s marathon catapulted Uganda to 11th on the final medal table as the curtains fell on a memorable World Athletics Championships yesterday in Budapest, Hungary.

Uganda’s performance improved upon last year’s display in the Oregon, where one gold and two bronze medals produced a 16th place finish on the table. In terms of medals, Uganda matched its all-time highest performance at the Championships from 2019, but on that occasion, the country finished in ninth place.

Joshua Cheptegei claimed Uganda’s first medal in Budapest after a sparkling display in the men’s 10,000m final, taking his personal tally in the Championships to three gold and one silver medal.

Uganda had representation in four finals on the last day, but Peruth Chemutai, Halima Nakaayi or Oscar Chelimo, who competed in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, women’s 800m and men’s 5000m, would not yield a third medal.
