The inaugural Kampala International Rugby 7s tournament concluded on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Kings Park, Bweyogerere, with Uganda’s Emerging Cranes clinching the title in a thrilling final.
Uganda edged out the South Africa All Stars 15–12 in a nail-biting match that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

The South Africans struck first with a 7–0 lead, but Uganda responded with a try from Roy Kizito, narrowing the gap to 7–5.
South Africa extended their lead, but Uganda fought back with tries from Nobert Okeny and Mark Osuna, sealing a memorable comeback victory.
In the semi-finals, Uganda defeated the UK’s Shogun 7–5, while the South Africa All Stars overcame Kenya’s Strathmore University 14–7.

Speaking after the final, Emerging Cranes captain Kharim Arinaitwe praised his teammates’ resilience:
“I’m excited that my team won. The boys put up a fight, and it shows we’re focused. Now, we return to the drawing board to prepare for the Africa 7s.”
Dr. Dickens Akena, Chair of the Local Organising Committee, expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s success:
“This has been a successful event. Next year, we aim to make it bigger and better, with more international teams to raise the level of competition.”

While acknowledging that spectator turnout fell short of expectations, Dr. Akena commended the quality of rugby and the low number of injuries. He also extended gratitude to local teams including Heathens, Stanbic Black Pirates, KCB KOBS, Rams, Warriors, and Buffaloes for their participation.
