Theo Bongonda's strike was enough for DR Congo to beat Uganda 1-0 in the friendly match today at Japoma Stadium, Douala in Cameroon.

Bongonda scored through a penalty in the first half after Halid Lwaliwa handled the ball in the box.

Cranes struggled in the first half while DR Congo should have at least scored two goals up including hitting the goal post.

But they managed to strategize and improve in the second half and they failed to capitalise on the chances created. Milton Karisa was one of the players who missed crucial chances for the Cranes.

This was a build-up for the Cranes in preparation for Algeria in the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers this Sunday in Cameroon.

Cranes will host Algeria in Central Africa as they wait on the refurbishment of Namboole Stadium to be completed.

This decision came after FUFA inspected Mandela National Stadium on April 24, and confirmed that the Stadium was not ready to host the qualifiers that resume in June.

Uganda is third in Group F with four points just like second-placed Tanzania. Algeria who are top with 12 points, while Niger is bottom with two points. Cranes will climax the group stages with a tie against Niger away from home in September.

The two final games of the qualifiers will also determine coach Sredojevic’s stay with the Cranes.
