Uganda Hockey Association (UHA) chairman, Phillip Wafula, believes the incoming financial boost to the association is going to streamline the National Hockey League.
“Having a new partner on board sponsoring the National Hockey League is a big boost to the association in terms of proper planning and logistics remuneration,” noted Wafula.
UHA renewed a partnership worth sh15m with Uganda Baati on Monday morning at the manufacturer’s offices located on Mulwana Road in Industrial Area, Kampala.
Ian Rumanyika the Uganda Baati head of external and corporate affairs, promised to help grow the game.
“We want to make hockey known among Ugandans as it is the third most popular sport after badminton in second and football in the first place,” Rumanyika said.
Rumanyika continued to point out that the sponsorship comes with a pledge to plant trees for every goal scored in the league.
“For every goal scored in the league this season, we shall plant a tree as we champion green manufacturing,” he said.
The partnership is geared towards streaming the administration with umpires and technical officers’ remuneration and allowances plus some renovations on the hockey pitch in Lugogo.
