Uganda Athletics (UA) will hold its ordinary elective assembly on Saturday, March 28, 2026, to elect office bearers for the next four years.

The polls will be presided over by returning officer Kenneth Robert Kitariko and will take place at Namboole Stadium.

“So far, everything is moving on well as far as election plans are concerned. Uganda Athletics shall be holding its election on the set date of 28 March 2026. We are now in the final process of vetting candidates according to their application interests,” Kitariko said.

Speaking to Vision Sport, Kitariko outlined the election roadmap, which began with a call for nominations from March 7 to 17, 2026. This was followed by the candidate nomination period scheduled for March 17 to 19, with the publication of the final list of candidates set for March 20.

According to Kitariko, the UA executive board elections will focus on the positions of President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary, Treasurer, Organising Secretary, and Publicity Secretary.

The last Annual General Assembly, held on February 9, saw the current sitting president, Dominic Otucet, declare his intention to seek another term at the helm of the federation.

Otucet has led Uganda Athletics since 2010. He first joined the executive in 1999 as Treasurer before rising to the position of Vice President in 2002.

“I still have unfinished projects that I believe are important for the growth of athletics in Uganda, so I am requesting members to entrust me with another term to complete this work,” Otucet said.

Under his leadership, Uganda has enjoyed remarkable global success, producing world and Olympic champions including Stephen Kiprotich, Moses Kipsiro, Joshua Cheptegei, Jacob Kiplimo, and Peruth Chemutai.

These achievements are widely described within the federation as a golden era for Ugandan athletics.

The Amuria district delegate came in unopposed in the previous election and is now set to embark on yet another four-year tenure, having taken over from Daniel Tamwesigire in 2010.

Otucet hinted at his strategic plan for the next term, which includes key priorities such as training more coaches, building a federation home, empowering regions, and improving close relations with the media fraternity.

“Training more coaches will be a key priority in this term of office that I am undertaking,” he added.
