Friday 11th
JKl lady Dolphins 82 UCU lady canons 64
KCCA Panthers 73 UCU Canons 69
It was a disappointing Friday night for UCU basketball as both teams suffered defeats in National Basketball League action at Lugogo on April 11th.
The UCU Lady Canons fell 82-64 to the dominant JKL Lady Dolphins, while the UCU Canons dropped a close 73-69 decision to the KCCA Panthers in a rematch of last season's playoff encounter.
The women's game saw the unbeaten Lady Canons (2-1) struggle against JKL's offensive firepower. The Lady Dolphins (3-0) rode strong performances from their trio of stars - Hope Akello (19 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists), Agatha Kamwada (19 points), and Tamasha Nsubuga (19 points, 4 rebounds) - to build a commanding 42-30 halftime lead. Despite UCU's second-half efforts, JKL's defense and transition game proved too much to overcome.
In the men's matchup, the Canons (2-1) let a third-quarter lead slip away against the undefeated KCCA Panthers (4-0). After establishing a seven-point advantage, UCU watched as KCCA responded with a decisive 10-2 run to take control. Stanley Mugerwa led the Panthers with an impressive 23-point, 11-rebound double-double, supported by Emmanuel Odongkara's 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Looking ahead, the UCU Canons will aim to rebound against the Victoria Crocs, while KCCA faces their toughest test yet against the high-flying Namuwongo Blazers on April 18th. The losses mark the first setbacks of the season for both UCU squads, who will need to regroup quickly as the NBL season continues.
