Two-time national champion Moses Lumala is seeking a strong comeback as the National Rally Championship heads to Masaka for round four this weekend.
The veteran driver has openly expressed frustration with his recent performances, insisting he expects much more from himself.
"We inject a lot into this sport and, for me, if I continue putting up the kind of performance I showed in Mbarara without winning even a single section, then I should retire," Lumala said.
His remarks follow a disappointing Pearl of Africa Rally outing in Mbarara, where he was penalized for arriving late at a time control.
"I think I love this car so much that I do not fully commit myself when driving, which is unacceptable for a driver of my calibre," he added.
Lumala enlisted a service crew from Latvia ahead of the Pearl Rally in hopes of matching foreign teams, but the results did not go according to plan.
"I only enjoyed the first section because it was extremely rough. In the rest of the stages, I am sure the boys were beating me by close to three or four minutes because I broke a damper," he explained.
The event was won by Tanzanian Randeep Singh of Asas Rally Team in a Ford Fiesta Proto.
Lumala will be among more than 30 crews expected to battle for honours this weekend across Greater Masaka and Sembabule districts, covering 309.4 kilometres.
Currently sixth in the championship standings, Lumala will be hoping to rediscover his winning touch and revive his title aspirations.
