Secondary school students in the Teso zone have been strongly cautioned against hooliganism and indiscipline during sporting events following violent clashes that marred the Amuria district secondary schools' boys' football competitions.
The warning comes after chaotic scenes at Amuria SS playground, where hundreds of stick-wielding students clashed with police, blocked highways with barricades, and assaulted motorcyclists. Security forces resorted to tear gas and live bullets to disperse the rioters.
Officials React
Francis Ojangole, USSSA Teso zone executive, expressed deep concern over the students' behaviour: "Such acts of violence and disregard for school regulations are unacceptable. Discipline must be central to all sporting activities."
Emmanuel Ikwap, Chairperson of Administration, stressed that such incidents tarnish the district's reputation and hinder students' progress: "Indiscipline undermines our educational goals. We must collectively end this hooliganism."
John Robert Osuu, USSSA Teso Zonal Chairperson, issued a stern warning to school heads: "You are accountable for your students' conduct. Continued violence will damage both our education sector and these children's futures."
