Lethal striker Isaac Ogwang was the outstanding player of the day as his double strike aided his province Teso to a 2-1 away win against Ankole and a straight qualification to the FUFA DRUM quarterfinals.

The FUFA DRUM game played at Kabwohe grounds in Sheema Municipality on Saturday and watched by a handful of spectators, was the last of Teso province in Group A and the result was the most needed for the side to get through to the next stage, and there if came.

Ogwang took advantage of a shaky Ankole defence that was missing the leadership of captain Hilary Mukundane due to injury, to take his side into the first-half lead after a beautiful exchange of passes to give Ankole custodian Denis Otim no chance.

The eventual Man Of the Match (MOM) was again on it at the stroke of half-time, when he scored direct from a free kick from the edge of the box, the score that extended Ankole’s qualification misery but added to Ogwang’s total tally in the campaign to 3 goals.

The second half saw stand-in coach Zaid Byekwaso for Ankole, who did not have head coach Vieri Bainomugisha due to unexplained reasons, make changes, bringing on Sunny Kaijja and Seiri Arigumaho for Ivan Ahimbisibwe and Marvin Oshabe and the pair brought in some life with Kaijja scoring what turned out to be a consolation.

There were several calls for a penalty by Ankole enthusiasts and players but the referee kept waving play on, and even when Joseph Akandwanaho appeared to have scored an equalizer, it was ruled out for offside.

Teso now goes through with 7 points from 4 games and the last of the qualifying slot will be determined by the results of the last group game between hosts Acholi and travelling Ankole at Pece Stadium, with Acholi (4 points) just needing a draw to go through while Ankole only has to win to qualify.
