Having served the sport for 50 years, tennis legend John Oduke wants a tournament in his honour.

The Nile Special Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) Legendary Award winner for 2019 told Vision Sport at Lugogo Tennis Court that he would love to award a trophy or prize at a tournament organised in his name.

“I started playing tennis at the age of 10 years, and have served it for 50 years. My death wish is and will always be to have a tournament in respect of my contributions to sport just like USPA did,” Oduke stated.

Born in 1958, Oduke has been loyal to the sport for the whole of his life and believes that there is no better reward than a regional (East African) tournament in appreciation of his contributions when he is still alive.

Oduke groomed most of the top tennis players this country has ever produced.

He appealed to the National Council of Sports and any other corporate brands to come to support him in organizing that tournament.

He lauded NCS for allowing him to use court five and six which he said will help to identify and nurture future tennis stars.
