Four foreign teams—Tanzania, Rwanda, Kenya, and Zimbabwe, have confirmed their participation in the 15th edition of the Uganda International Woodball Open.
This year's edition will be held at the University of Kisubi in Wakiso District, located 24 km from Kampala along Entebbe Road, from Friday, November 6 to Sunday, November 8.
Juma Kato, the Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF) General Secretary, confirmed the developments during a media briefing held at the federation's offices in Mengo.
Kato added that, unlike previous editions, cash prizes will be awarded to the podium finishers across the different categories, except in the junior divisions. The local organising committee is set to finalise the exact prize amounts.
"We are going to award cash prizes this year for the podium finishers, except in the junior categories," Kato explained.
The tournament, which was founded in 2009, is expected to attract over 1,000 participants competing across various categories at the University of Kisubi.
Defending champions Uganda Prisons have confirmed their participation and vowed to retain their title. However, former winners Ndejje University are also eyeing the trophy, though they face stiff opposition from last year's runners-up, Kampala University.
Other Ugandan teams geared up for the tournament include the Ministry of Public Service, Kyambogo University, Uganda Christian University (UCU), Bank of Uganda (BOU), and the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).
