Across Africa, football fans are celebrating the return of French Ligue 1 McDonald’s matches on SuperSport, following last month’s CANAL+ announcement.

This bold move has sparked a wave of excitement, granting supporters a front-row seat to the drama and intensity of one of Europe’s fiercest leagues.

SuperSport now airs select Ligue 1 McDonald’s matches in English and additional languages, thanks to the league’s broadcast partnership with CANAL+. Viewers have already settled into the rhythm of France’s top-flight football.

Early broadcasts featured European powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain, fresh off their Champions League and Club World Cup exploits, alongside other strong clubs competing for league glory. Fans have responded with enthusiasm across social platforms.

Engagement on match nights spiked, driven by the thrill of watching global stars like Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé and prodigy Désiré Doué. With up to three live games available every weekend, households from Kampala to Kigali to Kinshasa have embraced the French style. Rendani Ramovha, Director of Sport Content for English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa at MultiChoice, said the momentum reflects Africa’s hunger for elite football.

SuperSport is proud to add to its array of explosive football action and entertainment for our viewers across Africa through the CANAL+ partnership with Ligue 1 McDonald’s. We know how much football is loved across the continent, and broadcasting a prestigious league like Ligue 1 only adds to the value our subscribers receive. The calibre of football talent now available on SuperSport speaks for itself, and we are thrilled to add the French League to our premium sports catalogue,” Ramovha stated.

The growing fan buzz sets the stage for another action-packed weekend as SuperSport lines up premium fixtures to close out November. The matches are now available live on SuperSport to DStv, DStv Stream and GOtv subscribers across the continent.
