Patrick Sumata and Eva Asasira emerged winners of the third American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Golf Championship held at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa on June 4, each securing 44 and 40 points, respectively.
The one-day tournament also coincided with “Freedom 250,” the official United States initiative marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.
Both players, competing off handicaps 18 and 36, respectively, expressed excitement over their performances.
“I feel excited. I don't know how to feel right now, but I am overwhelmed,” Sumata said.
“The course is quite dry at the moment, but it plays well, and the balls are flying. Since it was Stableford, my focus was on making pars and, at worst, bogeys on each hole. That strategy helped me achieve this result.”
He added: “I expected maybe a podium finish, but I didn't expect to win overall. I got seven pars and six bogeys, which put me in a good position,” said Sumata, who has played golf for about five years.
