Suici Football Club capped a dominant campaign by winning both the football and cricket titles at the Mwiri League Season Six championships, which concluded on June 20th, 2026, at the Ruck Yard Sports Club ground in Jinja City.

Organised by the Mwiri Old Boys Association (MOBA) and sponsored by Guinness, the league brought together alumni in over 20 teams for a vibrant display of competition and camaraderie.

In the football final, Suici FC successfully defended their crown with a commanding 2-0 victory over Makaya FC in the main pool showdown.

The team was presented with the coveted main shield by MOBA President Daniel Mushabe.

Suici also triumphed in the cricket final against Divers FC. This marks Suici's third overall title since the inception of the league, solidifying their status as a dominant powerhouse.

The Plate Cup category delivered intense drama as Solida FC clinched their first-ever trophy by defeating Kombora FC 3-2 in a tense penalty shootout after a hard-fought, scoreless stalemate in regular time.

Solida’s Ashraf Asasira scored one of the decisive penalties, while goalkeeper Stewart Anywar a.k.a Onana delivered a heroic performance by saving two spot-kicks to clinch the win. Kester Ssemugabi and Martin Mukama also successfully converted their spot-kicks.

It marked Solida’s first Plate Cup triumph. Kombora FC finished as runners-up.

In post-match comments Mugumira expressed pride in the team’s achievement: “I feel proud of my team for winning back-to-back—we had some tough moments, but we managed to overcome them through teamwork,” Mugumira said.

For Solida FC, the jubilant Ashraf Asasira reflected on the hard-fought final: “The match was very tight, but we managed to stick to our tactics, we managed to win the penalty shootouts. We are very grateful—it’s the first time for us to take the trophy.”

Kombora’s Pascal Twayitibwa, who spoke about reaching the final among 20 teams, highlighted his side’s spirit: “It has been a good season for Kombor, If you reach the final, even if it’s the plate, that means you performed really well.”

Mwiri League Committee Chairman Shadrach Olinga announced the standout individual performers of the season: Suici striker Ashraf Mugumira was named the league’s Most Valuable Player, Best Goalkeeper: Stewart Anywar (Solida FC), Best Defender: Pascal Twayitibwa (Kombora FC), Top Scorer & Best Female Player: Shakira Kabayaga (Makaya FC) and Best Batsman: Paul Bamwira (Kombora FC).

MOBA President Daniel Mushabe praised the growth of the league, noting it has become a highlight on the sports and social calendar for old Mwirian students.

Participating teams included Divers FC, Wampa, The Great Solida, Salvo, Rugaruga, Mpala, Kombora, Lukambwe, Salci, The Great Shadow, Suici FC, Buliti, The Great Makaya, Blue Dollar, Mbaawo, Bootlickers, Vuyoz United, Winter, Top Layer, and others.

Mushabe also commended members of the Mbaawo cohort for donating a Blood Bank Refrigerator to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital, showcasing the event’s community impact beyond the pitch.

Following the prize-giving ceremony, alumni celebrated into the night with live music performances by artist Lillian Mbabazi.

The successful staging of Season Six reinforces the Mwiri League’s role in fostering lifelong bonds among former students while delivering high-quality competitive sport.
