KCCA FC head coach Brian Ssenyondo believes the club's new signings, together with the retention of experienced defender Hassan Muhamud, will strengthen the squad as the Cityzens prepare for the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season.
The Lugogo side has signed defender Maxwell Owachgiu, midfielder Elivis Ngonde and forward Charles Lwanga, while Muhamud has extended his stay at the club.
Ssenyondo said the new arrivals would increase competition for places and enhance KCCA's chances of competing for honours next season.
Speaking about Owachgiu, who has joined on a two-year contract, Ssenyondo said the defender's leadership qualities and versatility made him a valuable addition.
"Maxwell is a player whose work ethic and discipline I know inside out. He brings so much to this side, including leadership qualities. Signing him guarantees us a proven winner who understands the pressure of competing at the highest level in Ugandan football," Ssenyondo said.
Owachgiu reunites with Ssenyondo after the pair previously worked together at Kitara FC, where the defender captained the club to the 2024 Stanbic Uganda Cup title and featured in the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers.
He spent last season at Buhimba United Saints FC.
Ssenyondo also welcomed the return of striker Charles Lwanga, who has signed a new deal after spending three years away from the club.
"Lwanga possesses a combination of raw pace and a proven goalscoring instinct in this league. We know exactly how we want to deploy his strengths to make our frontline more lethal. He understands the culture of this club, and his hunger to achieve big things aligns perfectly with our vision for the season."
Lwanga first joined KCCA from SC Villa in 2020 after scoring 33 goals and providing 21 assists in 35 matches for Villa's junior team, in addition to three goals and three assists in 19 senior appearances.
During his first spell at Lugogo, he finished as the club's top scorer with 12 goals in all competitions before returning to SC Villa, where he gained more Uganda Premier League experience.
KCCA have also strengthened their midfield with the signing of Uganda Cranes midfielder Elivis Ngonde on a three-year contract from SC Villa.
The left-footed midfielder previously played for Busoga United and Gaddafi before helping SC Villa win the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League title. He has also represented Uganda at the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
"Ngonde has exceptional vision, breaks up opposition play and seamlessly transitions defence into attack. His arrival at Lugogo adds more competition and technical quality to the team. He will add so much to this KCCA FC side."
The club has also retained experienced defender Hassan Muhamud after handing him a one-year contract extension.
Muhamud, whose previous contract expired at the end of last season, has played a key role since joining KCCA and can operate across the back line as well as in defensive midfield.
Before joining KCCA, he featured for Express FC, Police FC, Onduparaka FC and SC Villa. He also played in the Tanzania Premier League for Geita Gold FC and Mbeya City FC, and has represented the Uganda Cranes at the CHAN finals.
"Retaining Hassan was a priority for us. He is a senior player whose leadership and flexibility give us so many options across the back line. His understanding of our long-term plans made this extension easy," he said.
KCCA recently appointed Ssenyondo as head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.
He will be assisted by Jackson Magera Kaddu as first assistant coach and Simeon Massa as second assistant coach.
The club has also strengthened its technical team following the departure of fitness and conditioning coach Felix Ayobo, who left to pursue other professional opportunities.
Ram Nyakana Mpuuga has been appointed as the new strength and conditioning coach.
The club began pre-season training last week as preparations continue for the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League campaign.
