Uganda’s hold on sixth place in the world has been loosened after they fell from sixth to seventh in the newly released World Netball Rankings.
Wales has officially moved into sixth place in the world ahead of Uganda, while Malawi has dropped to eighth place from seventh.
The rest of the top five remain unchanged for now. Australia maintains the number one spot in the world ahead of New Zealand. Jamaica is third, followed by England, and South Africa rounds out the top five.
The She Cranes are victims of their recent poor international form, which saw them lose to Zimbabwe at the Africa Cup and to Malawi in the Vitality Netball Nations Quad Series that took place in England in early February.
The She Cranes had been sixth in the world for close to three years, but the lack of proper test matches after the sports certificate of recognition was withdrawn made playing opportunities hard to come by. The limited playing opportunities caught up with the team when it mattered most.
Dropping out of the top six means Uganda needs to play more international test matches against quality opposition over the next year. Most importantly, the domestic league competition, which is the bedrock of the national team, needs to start.
The league start date has been set for April 5, which is a little over a month away.
