The She Cranes opened their Celtic Cup campaign with a convincing 65-38 victory over Namibia at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.

Uganda began the match slowly, edging the first quarter 13-11 but gaining momentum as the game progressed. They dominated the second quarter to move 31-21 ahead, extended the advantage to 48-30 by the end of the third, and finished strongly over the full 60 minutes.

Shadia Nassanga produced a standout performance, overwhelming Namibia with her long-range shooting.

“I am very happy with Shadia’s performance in goal attack. We know that she has recently been playing as a goal shooter, but she supported well and was very good even in the midfield,” said Coach Rashid Mubiru.

Uganda played an attractive and effective style of netball. Although their start was not flawless, they improved markedly as the match went on.

Coach Mubiru began with a conventional line-up of Mary Nuba, Shadia Nassanga, Margret Baagala, Fildauce Namulema, Lillian Ajio, Gloria Aya and Shaffie Nalwanja. All twelve players featured, including Falidah Kadondi, Malisera Akello, Christine Nakitto, Lillian Achola and debutant Specioza Namukose.

The She Cranes will face Ireland tomorrow as they continue to build confidence in the tournament.

“We shall change the team accordingly. The players all did well, and we hope to continue testing different players tactically.”
