Margaret Baagala, the assistant captain of the She Cranes, is thrilled to be among the 10 players heading to New Zealand for the 2024 Fast5 World Netball Series.
A key player for NIC Netball Club, Baagala, like many of her teammates, has been affected by the absence of the Netball Super League.
However, thanks to support from NIC management, she has managed to stay active with some training sessions, though without the usual competitive edge.
"Training when you're not expecting any competition is demoralizing, but at least it has kept us fit for some time," Baagala admitted. "However, I feel bad for the players who weren’t training. It's hard for them to regain their fitness."

Baagala made her Fast5 debut in 2022, where her energy and enthusiasm, especially her dance moves, won over fans and earned the She Cranes the title of the tournament's "Dancing Queens." The team became a fan favorite, with Baagala’s lively presence both on and off the court contributing to Uganda’s strong reputation.
Reflecting on that experience, Baagala shared her excitement for the upcoming tournament: “My first experience at Fast5 was very interesting. My target, along with the rest of the team, is to perform even better this time. I also want to win the Player of the Match again, like I did in 2022.”
In 2022, Baagala was named Player of the Match for her pivotal role in leading the She Cranes to a commanding 32-10 victory over Jamaica, securing Uganda's fifth-place finish. With her sights set on even greater achievements this year, Baagala is determined to help her team soar even higher at the 2024 Fast5 World Series.
As Margaret Baagala prepares for her second appearance at the Fast5 World Netball Series, she remains a symbol of determination and leadership for the She Cranes. Her experience, energy, and passion for the game will be crucial as Uganda aims to improve on their previous performance. With her sights set on even greater success and a desire to inspire her teammates, Baagala is ready to shine once again on the global stage, helping the She Cranes solidify their place among netball’s elite in New Zealand.
