Seven candidates from the North East region have been officially nominated to serve as delegates for the FUFA General Assembly.
Under the FUFA statutes, each region must appoint national delegates, including a female representative, a delegate from each province, and a third-division club representative.
Additionally, the region will vote for a special interest group representative—covering players, coaches, referees, and schools—who will then participate in a national assembly to elect FUFA’s general assembly representatives.
The North East Regional Football Association comprises three provinces: Teso, Karamoja, and Sebei. The nomination process, which began on April 14, 2025, will conclude on April 16, 2025.
On the first day of nominations, FUFA Electoral Commission officer Agnes Akello confirmed that Cheptoet Isaa was nominated for Sebei Province, while Johnson Fairfax Nyiria secured the nomination for Karamoja Province. Agnes Mugena was nominated as the region’s female representative.
Other nominees included John Odongo and Richard Ochom, while Paul Opus was put forward as the regional clubs’ representative, setting up a contest with the incumbent, Julius Opolot.
Akello emphasized that all prospective delegates must submit duly filled nomination forms along with proof of payment of 500,000 shillings. She also noted that submissions could be made online to the FUFA Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala.
Upon her nomination, Mugena, an incumbent delegate and FUFA executive member, reaffirmed her commitment to advancing football development in the region. John Odongo pledged to mobilize more districts and clubs to participate in football activities, while Richard Ochom stressed that football is not just a revenue stream but a platform where stakeholders invest for long-term growth.
The elections for regional delegates and other representatives will take place on April 30, 2025, at regional offices across the country.
