S.Segawa (UGA) v B. Acosta (MEX)

Uganda’s U.S.-based top seed, Sulaiman ‘The Ruler’ Segawa, has vowed to deliver fireworks in his upcoming bout against Mexico’s Bryan Acosta this Friday, September 5, 2025.

Segawa returns to the ring nearly a year after his controversial loss to America’s Bruce ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington, which cost him the WBC Silver Featherweight title on September 27, 2024.

Now, the former Uganda national team southpaw is determined to bounce back in what promises to be a featherweight blockbuster.

The ten-round thriller is set to unfold under the floodlights of the iconic CareFirst Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C. The night will also feature another headline bout, with America’s Jordan White taking on Mexico’s Rene Tellez Giron for the North American Boxing Federation Lightweight title.

“I’m glad to be back doing what I’m best known for. It’s been a while since my last fight, but we’re ready,” Segawa told Vision Sport. “I’ve been cooking for months, and now it’s time to serve my fans worldwide. I’m ready to lecture this Mexican.”

A resident of Silver Spring, Maryland, Segawa enters the fight with a professional record of 23-5-1, including 17 wins—six by knockout. He is currently ranked sixth globally by the WBC among featherweights.

Acosta, meanwhile, boasts an impressive 20-1 record with eight knockouts. His only defeat came via unanimous decision against America’s Ramon Cardenas on August 2, 2025.

With both fighters evenly matched in experience and power, Segawa will lean on his proven track record against Mexican opponents. Acosta will be his fourth, following knockout victories over Hector Lopez Jr., Gadwin Rosa, and most recently, Ernesto Guirrero.

“I respect Acosta, he’s a good fighter. But I hope he’s done his homework on how his fellow Mexicans fared against me. I can’t wait to see him in the ring,” Segawa added.

Daniel Rubin, Segawa’s promoter, is confident his fighter has what it takes to claim victory on Friday night.
