In August 2022 at Garuga, the South African motorcycling team dominated the FIM Africa Motocross of Nations Championship, winning four of the seven categories.
Jayden Proctor (MX1), Callan Broskie (MX2), Breece Romans (MX125), and Aiden Retief (MX65) all swept their respective classes to claim titles.
Uganda’s Gift Sebuguzi, however, denied them a clean sweep. In a thrilling MX85cc contest, Sebuguzi outlasted South Africa’s Ronald Graven, winning the second and third heats and finishing runner-up in the first to secure the overall crown.
This year, Sebuguzi is aiming for similar success when he competes in the MX125cc class at the 2026 edition in Namibia this August.

Known in the motorsport fraternity as Malcolm Tabula Gift, Sebuguzi proved his potential once again during the opening round of the Mountain Dew National Motocross Championship in Garuga. Racing on a 250cc bike, he overcame strong opposition including Waleed Omar and Asaf Natan in the combined MX1 and MX2 race.
His performance reassured his family of his international prospects.
“We are preparing him for FIM MXoAN. In Namibia he will race in the MX125, and our aim is for him to win his class,” said his mother, Nulu Nabaweesi.
The MX125cc category produced fireworks as Jerome Mubiru (bike 35) and Miguel Katende (bike 119) battled fiercely. Katende collected maximum points to emerge winner with 57 points, three ahead of Mubiru on 54, while Ron Young completed the podium with 39 points.

The MX85cc class kept fans on edge, with Jonathan Katende claiming victory after three competitive heats. Rising star Ethan Musede, who recently graduated from the 65cc category, impressed with strong performances, giving his parents confidence he is a genuine title contender. Musede had won the 65cc crown last year.
His younger brother, Jude Kyle Musede, sent a strong message in the MX65cc class, defeating rivals Emil Ssegirinya and Makumbi Jerome. Jude dominated all three heats to collect a maximum 60 points, while Ssegirinya finished second with 49 points and Makumbi third with 45 points.
