Sebatindira, Anyango headline inaugural Seroma Table Tennis Open

The inaugural Seroma Table Tennis Open has rolled off with 180 players taking part in different categories at Seroma Christian High School in Mukono.

The event started with team events, where Mbale Tigers and Nakasero Table Tennis Club started strongly to register as podium finishers in the inaugural event.

Uganda's top-ranked players, including Joseph Sebatindira, Patience Anyango, Jemimah Nakawala, and Parvin Nangonzi, are among the competitors.

The tournament has attracted players from across the country who will compete in two age categories—Under-13 and Under-19 boys and girls, as well as men's and women's singles, team events, and veterans' competitions.

The three-day tournament, which climaxes on Sunday, will also serve as the Central Region Mega Championship, according to the technical chairman of the Uganda Table Tennis Association, Ronald Seruryo.

"We have registered 180 players, and games are high-intensity as players are competing for national rankings," Seruryo noted.

"In addition to having players ranked, the tournament will also serve as preparation for the National Open and the University Games Championships, both of which will take place in December," he added.

In the women's team event, two groups have been formed. Mbogo Junior, Mbale Tigers, and MUBs are among the teams to watch in Group A, while Mbogo High and Mbale Tigers Academy are expected to challenge strongly in Group B.

The men's competition has four groups of four teams each, with hosts Seroma Lions and Seroma Christian High School featuring in Groups B and C, respectively.

Winners in the various categories will walk away with medals and trophies.
