Ronald Rugumayo advanced his pursuit of a Sunshine Tour card by finishing eighth at the Sunshine Development Tour-East Africa Swing 8 Lakowe Lakes Classic Golf Championship, held at Lakowe Lakes Golf Club in Nigeria and concluding on October 4.
Rugumayo posted a 1-over 217 across 54 holes, tying for seventh with Nigerians Odoh Alechenu and Mustapha Abubakar, as well as Ghanaian Augustine Manasseh.
He earned a share of the $50,000 (sh199m) prize and 43.24 SDT-EAS Order of Merit points.
Ghanaian Vincent Torgah won the event with a 3-under 213, defeating Nigerian Kamalu Bako in a play-off after both finished with the same score, in the event that attracted 110 players.
Rwandan Celestine Nsanzuwera, who leads the SDT-EAS Order of Merit with 742.93 points, finished joint third with Ghanaian Ezekiel Afisco, just one stroke behind the winner.
After Lagos, the Tour moves to Kenya, where Nakuru Golf Club will host the Rift Valley Championship from October 25 to 27.
The Tour will return to Nigeria from November 18 to 21, 2026, for the Alpha Bravo Golf Classic at Lakowe Lakes Golf Estate, further expanding opportunities for players across the region.
In addition to prize money, golfers are competing for valuable Sunshine Development Tour Order of Merit and Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points.
