Rugby clubs to use Busiro 7s tournament for National Series preparations

Rugby clubs will use the Busiro Rugby 7s tournament in Entebbe on Saturday, July 4, 2026, to fine-tune their teams ahead of the National 7s series, which kicks off on July 22-26, 2026.
The six-leg championship starts with the Stone City 7s at RuckYard Sports Club, and the inaugural Busiro 7s tournament on Saturday at Busamaga Ground will attract both elite and lower division teams, according to the organisers.
Kigongo Sebalamu, one of the organisers of the tournament, told Vision Sport that the tournament will be an annual event and will be used to promote rugby in Entebbe, Wakiso District.
"The Busiro tournament is meant to promote rugby in the area. We are going to use it to identify talent and then develop these talents to strengthen Entebbe teams, both men and women," Kigongo said.
The winner of the tournament will receive medals and a trophy.
The one-day tournament will attract both men's and women's teams, as well as schools.
Meanwhile, on the same day at Kampala Rugby Club in Naguru, Uganda Legends will host their Kenyan counterparts, and before the game, the Uganda U20 national team will face a select side in the curtain-raiser game at 1pm.
Michael Wokorach, Alex Mubiru, Brian Tabaruka, Brian Odongo, Mashal Chumkam, and Dr. Stone Lugya will be part of the Uganda Legends side.
Uganda Rugby Age Grade and Development Director Dorothy Nekesa confirmed the development, saying the game will be used as trials for the national team preparing for the Barthes Cup in October at Mutesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.
