Red-hot Sekadde and dominant Hellen steal the show at July MTN Golf Tees

Michael Sekadde returned a superb 61 nett to win the July MTN Golf Tees tournament at Entebbe Club on Saturday, marking his first overall victory in the monthly series that feeds into the prestigious MTN Tee of Tees finale in December.

The MTN Uganda general manager of human resources, who plays off handicap 28, beat a field of over 100 players to claim the top prize.

His score of 61 nett was his best over the seven months of competition so far and his second-best performance overall, having previously carded a 71 nett in the March tournament.

The impressive result has also propelled Sekadde to the top of the order of merit standings, strengthening his chances of qualifying for the end-of-year Tee of Tees championship, where the best eight rounds across the year determine the ultimate winners.

Apart from Charity Tushabomwe, who won the ladies' Group B with 71 nett, July's competition produced entirely new winners across the various categories, with none of last month's podium finishers managing to retain their titles.

In the men's divisions, Samson Agamile topped Group A, beating Ronnie Kasirye to the top prize by three strokes. Elly Mukasa (65 nett) edged Dan Kajjungu in Group B by two strokes, while Moses Ochole (66 nett) defeated Tesfaye Gurmu by the same margin in Group C.

The ladies' division saw Peace Hellen continue her dominant run in the order of merit with yet another outstanding performance. She won her category with red numbers—66 nett, matching the score she recorded four months ago in March. That was her fourth under-par score of the season, adding to her 62 and 70 in the February and April competitions respectively.

Esther Aganyira, who beat Hellen to the overall crown last year, finished second in the weekend competition with 76 nett, while Phionah Namanya claimed second place in the ladies' Group B.

Elsewhere, Charles Kabunga was the best senior golfer on the day with a 69 nett, while Anne Ssemboga took the honours in the guest category with an impressive 64 nett.
