Uganda Prisons Women’s Handball Club will shoulder the country’s hopes as the East and Central Africa Handball Federation Club Championship concludes on Thursday at Old Kampala Arena.

Prisons booked their place in the final after edging Kenya National Cereals and Produce Board 28–26 in a fiercely contested semi-final played on Wednesday.

Peace Abagoma led the scoring with a game-high seven goals, while Elizabeth Adorach, Scovia Lamunu and Ninjira Obadia each added five as Prisons overcame a physically stronger Kenyan side.

They will now face Nairobi Waters of Kenya in the women’s final scheduled for Thursday, January 1, 2026, at 4 pm.

Earlier, Nairobi Waters advanced to the final after defeating Uganda People’s Defence Forces 35–23, while Prisons eliminated Kenya Cereals to set up the all-important clash.

In the men’s competition, Kenya Cereals will take on Rwanda Police in the final. Rwanda Police secured their place with a 31–26 victory over UPDF, while Kenya Cereals comfortably dispatched Brothers of Kenya 37–16.

Uganda Handball Federation official Dan Musoke attributed the early exits of Ugandan men’s teams to limited exposure at the international level.

“Our teams end on the league games, unlike their opponents, who play many international tournaments which give them exposure,” Musoke said.
