Security agencies on Sunday, August 17, 2025, warned the public about fake ticket sales ahead of the pivotal Uganda Cranes match against South Africa in the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled for Monday, August 18, at Namboole Stadium.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango cautioned fans not to purchase tickets on Sunday or Monday, noting that these could be counterfeit.
"Security agencies have made necessary deployments to ensure a safe and successful match between Uganda Cranes and South Africa at Namboole Stadium on Monday. Security agencies have received intelligence information about fake tickets being sold to innocent Ugandans," Onyango said.
He revealed that in some cases, genuine tickets have been sold to multiple people, but only the first holder would be allowed entry.
"The machine will read the rest as already used," Onyango warned.
For those without tickets, Onyango said the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had designated three official fan zones with big screens where the public can watch the game. These include King’s Park Bweyogerere, Kyadondo Rugby Club, and Masindi.
"Security personnel will be stationed at all access points, conducting thorough searches to prevent security breaches. There will also be a strong presence on roads leading to Namboole Stadium," Onyango added.
He further advised fans who have not secured tickets to consider watching the game from the designated fan zones for a safe and enjoyable experience.
