Police seize weapons: Five suspects nabbed in ongoing crackdown

In the ongoing crackdown on hardcore criminals, law enforcement authorities have apprehended five suspects in Rwizi region.

Following a series of robberies targeting business operators, households and pedestrians, Police have recovered a cache of traditional weapons, particularly pangas, allegedly used by the suspects.

Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson, on Monday, April 21, 2024, said the group, operating on a motorcycle with registration number UEN 132S (now impounded), was actively involved in snatching valuables from unsuspecting victims.

Among those arrested are a mechanic, taxi tout and bodaboda rider, all operating within the Mbarara district area.

Enanga, said these arrests are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks engaged in "ride along and follow home" gate robberies.

Since the crackdown was launched a month ago, a total of 120 suspects have been apprehended, with 28 motorbikes allegedly used in criminal activities also seized.
