Parliament has facilitated the travel of para swimmer Husnah Kukundakwe to the Ken Demchuk Invitational in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, from December 1-3, 2023.

It's a Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualification event.

The national MP for persons with disability, Laura Kanushu, represented Speaker Anita Among handing tickets to the athlete who will travel with her mother, Hashma Bamutaliza, who is also her coach.

In her message, Among hailed Kukundakwe for her performances, notably winning Uganda six medals at the 2021 World Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey.

At the games, Kukundakwe brought home two gold medals, 3 silvers and a bronze, and other successes in local and international events.

“I want to say that we are proud of you Husnah as a country for defying and standing tall as a symbol of national pride. I want to applaud you for the crucial role you are playing in encouraging other children to believe in themselves and work hard to achieve their potential,” read part of the Speaker’s message.

“As our humble contribution, we have taken care of the air tickets for Husnah and her mother and we are here to wish you all the luck in your competition,” the message read.

Kukundakwe and her mother thanked the Speaker and Parliament for the recognition and continuous support.

Her participation increases her chances of qualifying for Paris 2024 and also gives her the opportunity to have as many competitions under her belt as possible because there are no para swimming competitions in Uganda.

Kukundakwe now in Senior Three, was at 14, the youngest athlete at Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, and she is the only para swimmer representing Uganda internationally.
