More than 500 runners turned up for this year’s Run Fest Marathon, uniting for a common cause of supporting underprivileged teenagers in Katosi, Mukono.

The run, now in its fourth edition, continues to grow in impact and participation, reflecting a shared commitment to transforming lives through collective effort.

Held on Saturday, March 21, the marathon flagged off at Legends Rugby Grounds in Naguru, with participants competing in 5km and 2km races. The runners traversed the neighborhoods of Naguru, Kololo, and Lugogo, braving early morning rains that did little to dampen their spirit. Winners in the different categories were awarded medals in recognition of their efforts.

Participants expressed satisfaction not only in completing the race but also in contributing to a meaningful cause. Solomon Kitumba, one of the runners, emphasized the importance of purposeful living.

“I am so impressed with myself for taking part in this event. With just Shs35,000 for a kit, I have been able to contribute towards changing someone’s life. In life, we need to live with a purpose. Give a hand where you can, even if it is little,” Kitumba said.

Proceeds from the marathon will go towards the construction of a tertiary skilling center in Katosi, Mukono. The facility aims to equip disadvantaged youth with practical skills such as tailoring, hairdressing, and computer literacy to help them earn a sustainable income.

Doreen Kimuli, one of the organizers, applauded the turnout despite the rainy conditions and revealed ambitious plans for the project.

“After this run, we are setting off immediately. By May 25, we hope to have our first classes begin at the Vicious Woman Skilling Centre. We plan to acquire equipment like hair dryers, computers, and sewing machines, as well as construct the main building. We are still inviting more people to support this cause,” Kimuli noted.

The event was organized by Christ Heart Church Kisasi in partnership with Vicious Woman Uganda, with chief runner Susan Nsibirwa leading the charge. Nsibirwa highlighted the long-term vision behind the initiative.

“With each run, we go a step further in constructing the skilling center. Youth need to be empowered, and I believe the skills they acquire will help them earn a living in the future,” she said.

Organizers remain optimistic that the annual event will continue to uplift and transform the lives of disadvantaged teenagers in Katosi for years to come.
