Over 30 players moved across different teams in the National Basketball League (NBL) during the mid-season transfer window, which officially closed on June 30.
Clubs in both the men’s and women’s leagues used the window to add new talent and prepare for part of second round and forthcoming playoffs of the season.
City Oilers, the 10-time league champions, made the biggest moves by signing two international players and bringing back Mer Maker Moses. Canadian star Chad Bowie joined the team along with Central African forward Kurt-Curry Axel Wegscheider. Both players came from Rwanda’s Kepler Basketball Club.
Bowie, the son of former NBA player Anthony Lee Bowie, was named MVP of the Rwandan league last season. He was the top scorer with 410 points and also had 62 steals.
Wegscheider is a strong and experienced forward who played against the Oilers in the Basketball Africa League earlier this year. He is well known by former Oilers coach Mandy Juruni, who is now at Kepler. Maker Moses also impressed in his return, scoring 20 points in a win over Rezlife.
Namuwongo Blazers, who are top of the league table, added three key players. They signed Ivan Muhwezi from City Oilers, along with Chukwurah Chukwubukah and Ezeani Okuchwuku.
JKL Dolphins added Kassenga Jason and Wokorach Stephen to their team. Victoria Crocs also boosted their squad with Joshua Maiba and Mayom Garang.
Sommet made three big signings, Kasereka Tembo, Peter Cheng, and Frank Fataki Nyembo. The trio is already playing well.
Kampala Rockets signed Gideon Kasasa and Micheal Ssekibenga, and let go of Asiku Dickson. JT Jaguars welcomed Ivan Otyek and brought back George Agasi.
Rezlife Saints brought in Mabor Rin Tueny and Christopher Omanye. They released four players, including Gideon Kasasa, Joshua Maiba, and Micheal Ssekibenga.
Livingstone added Ivan Eyangu and Asiku Dickson to strengthen their team.
KIU Titans signed Akok Majok Peter and Hon Kwany from Sommet. The two new players helped the Titans get their first wins of the season.
In the women’s league, UPDF Lady Tomahawks signed Atulinda Moreen from Magic Stormers. JT Lady Jaguars added Bai Sangare, a strong forward who brings size and energy.
Magic Stormers replaced Atulinda by signing Kur Ajah and Joy Mupalia. JKL Lady Dolphins also made strong moves, adding Ruth Letaru and Muhayimuna Namuwaya to improve their squad.
Angels brought in two young players Lydia Anyanzwa and Shamiah Namujju to help build for the future. KIU Rangers made big signings too, adding Sarah Yaweh, Coulibaly Malienne, and Ballo Malienne, two of whom are from Mali.
