More than 200 athletes have confirmed participation in the National Road Running Championships scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, in Tororo District.

The championships will feature the men's and women's one-mile and 5km races, with athletes expected to battle for places on the national team.

The event will also serve as a key selection platform for Uganda's representatives at the World Athletics Road Running Championships, scheduled for September 19–20 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Uganda Athletics Federation president Dominic Otucet urged the participating athletes to give their best as they seek to earn a place on the national team.

"We target the best athletes who will represent us on the international scene. We hope to do well as we have always done," Otucet said.

With more than 200 athletes expected on the start line, competition is expected to be intense as established runners look to secure national team places while emerging athletes aim to announce themselves on the road-running scene.

The championships mark an important step in Uganda's preparations for the World Athletics Road Running Championships, where the country will be seeking strong performances on the international stage.

The World Athletics Road Running Championships were last held in Riga, Latvia, in 2023.

The Tororo championships will therefore provide Uganda with an opportunity to identify athletes capable of carrying the country's hopes in Copenhagen.
