Brawn Boxing Club's Alfred 'Gorilla' Ojok vs rival Richard Kasujja middleweight showdown headlines a barrage of boxing fights scheduled for this Friday at Kabalega Resort Hotel in Masindi as the Uganda Boxing Champions League (UBCL) makes its historic debut outside the Kampala Metropolitan region.

The event, dubbed Mayhem at Masindi under the flagship of the Uganda Boxing Champions League (UBCL), is part of the Independence Day celebrations, with boxing joining other sports disciplines and events all over the country as Uganda celebrates its 64th Independence Day.

The event marks the first time the UBCL will be staged outside the Kampala Metropolitan region, a campaign the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) intends to align with the 2023 National Sports Act in terms of geographical coverage.

Ojok, who represents Brawn BC, a sister club to Bunyoro Boxing Club, is relishing the opportunity to fight before a home crowd and has promised to deliver Kasujja as an Independence Day gift to his supporters.

"I can't lose in front of my fans. Kasujja must come prepared because I'm going to serve him to my fans as their Independence Day gift," said Ojok, who represented the national boxing team, the Bombers, at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

But Kasujja is unfazed by the prospect of facing a partisan crowd and believes his preparation will give him the edge over Ojok.

"I don't care whether Ojok will have most of the fans supporting him. I have prepared well and, trust me, I'm ready to give my all to defeat him," Kasujja vowed.

The clash is expected to provide one of the biggest highlights of the Independence Day celebrations, with both boxers eager to make a statement in front of Masindi fans.

Brawn BC's owner Kenny Rodger Kamulaasi and Peter Kajura, the Managing Director of Kabalega Resort Hotels and patron of Bunyoro-Kitara boxing clubs, are optimistic the move will not only spread the sport in the region but also inspire more boxers there.

Notable boxers are lined up for the card, including COBAP Boxing Club's two-time UBCL featherweight champion Prince Moses Kimera and 2018 Africa Youth Boxing Championship featherweight silver medallist Regan Musoke, among others.
