Patrick Rembert snatched a game-high 28 points, nine assists and seven rebounds as the City Oilers defeated the Namuwongo Blazers 78-73 in Game 5 of the National Basketball League (NBL) Finals, taking a 3-2 lead.

Rembert has been sensational throughout the Finals, and on Sunday he had his best game yet, pushing the Oilers to the brink of a record-extending 11th crown.

Joel Lukoji added 14 points for the Oilers and was instrumental down the stretch, running the offense when Namuwongo’s defence keyed in on the lethal Rembert. Titus Lual, who finished with 10 points, equally came to the fore in the clutch, with a two-man game with Lukoji that made a critical difference in addition to Rembert.

Namuwongo were led by Arthur Wanyoto with 15 points, while Anthony Chukurwa contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Blazers jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first three minutes and stretched it to 19-14 with 2:14 left in the quarter.

But the Oilers battled back to win the second quarter 22-17 and make the contest honest.

The game was tied 58-58 at the start of the fourth quarter, but the Oilers relied on Rembert and their experience to pull out the victory.
