Semifinal:Job Odoi (UWA) 3 Geofrey Otomei (Prisons)2
Darter Job Odoi won the KZone End of Year Darts Tournament at Brimax Hotel, Kyebando, on Saturday, December 21, 2024, and set his target on winning the Africa Cup next year.
“It has been a while without winning, but I am very happy getting back to my winning form, and my focus is on winning at the international championship,” Odoi said the 2023 Africa champion after the win.
The 62-year-old Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) player added that he is still strong but is only demoralised by the lack of funds to take him to international competitions.
To clinch the victory, Odoi beat Geofrey Otomei of Prisons 3-2 in the semifinal and later whipped Nelson Etalu 3-0 to win a cash prize of sh150,000 courtesy of Xobit.
Odoi played darts in the 80s, took a 30-year sabbatical in 1988, and returned in 2018.
Last year, Odoi won the Africa Cup in Egypt, with Bank of Uganda’s Sarah Makanga taking the women's silverware.
This year, the UWA darter had not won any tournament until Saturday's triumph.
In the doubles category, Edrine Ssevume of Marafik and Milton Simba of Silver Springs beat Erias Rukundo and Patrick Opolot of UWA 4-1 in the final.
In the team event, Uganda Prisons Services beat UWA to lift the trophy.
Xobit deputy country director, Catherine Rukundo, thanked participants and added that their commitment and love for the game make its future bold.
She pledged to sponsor the New Year’s Tournament in Jinja early next year.
