Uganda national team golfer Godfrey Nsubuga continued his meteoric rise in the sport when carded 292gross over 72 holes to win the NCBA Bank Tanzania Golf Open at Kili Golf Club course on Sunday.

This was Nsubuga’s fourth overall championship win in a space of two months since he won the Uganda Open on October 21.

His record-setting performance in the Uganda Open was followed by another victory in the Entebbe Open two weeks later before he topped the men in the Kiambu Open, which was won by Kenyan female golfer Naomi Wafula in Nairobi, on November 19.

Nsubuga opened his round with a two-over 74 before playing level in the second round and before uniform one-over 73 in the last two rounds, to wrap up the championship with a 19-stroke victory ahead of Tanzanian Daudi Isiaka and another Ugandan Ibrahim Bagalana who tied for second having carded a total gross of 311 each.

With his recent victory, he is in no doubt the new kid on the block who has taken the game to another level on the Uganda Golf Scene. His game changed for the better after he attended a high-performance training in South Africa courtesy of the R&A in July, and since then he has been performing well in Kenya and Uganda.

“It has been a long-term preparation to reach where I am today. The many tournaments I am playing make me steady, and the support I get from people, Mehta Group and Henry Isiah of RYRA Investments Limited also come in handy,” Nsubuga noted.

“They have been able to provide me with some funds aiding me to play these back-to-back events, I would like to thank them.

“The Royal and Ancient training also helped me learn more and opened me up to several skills and techniques to better my game. I’ve greatly improved my mental toughness which is key in the game. I always now have a positive mind while playing,” Nsubuga stated, as he headed to Nairobi to compete in the Captain’s Prize tournament at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club this weekend.

In the sh37m professionals’ event, Uganda’s Rodell Gaita finished fourth overall behind Kenyan Daniel Nduva who won the event, and Tanzanian Nuru Morell and Justus Madoya who finished second and third respectively.
