New season, new opening day, but is there any real possibility of a new NBL champion?

The KIU Titans have put themselves in position to answer that question in the positive tense, and a victory over eight-time reigning champions City Oilers today at Lugogo would not harm their credibility as title contenders.

The 2023 NBL season tips off tomorrow, after the traditional Friday tip-off was aborted due to the unavailability of the Lugogo Arena, and in the day's final game there is real potential for an explosive climax.

On paper, KIU look best-placed to challenge the Oilers' hold on the NBL after beefing up their squad with scoring, experience, and physicality.

But opening days are really about igniting excitement ahead of a long and arduous season that could end up much different than it started.

And the clash between KIU and Oilers has the makings of a season-opening thriller, as well as last year's women's Finals rematch between the UCU Canons and JKL Lady Dolphins.

Five-time champions D'Mark Power open their account against Rez Life while the KCCA Panthers and Ndejje Angels are also in battle.

The Magic Stormers and Miracle Ravens get the season underway with the day's first game.
