Ndejje University handball team defeated Makerere University 38-27 to brighten its chances of retaining gold at the 19th edition of the National University Games that are underway at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono district.

Ndejje has so far managed to win all its matches against all its opponents Kyambogo, Kampala University(KU), and Makerere.

The victory was not by surprise but to many factors which include their unique play style, the strategic mind of the technical team led by head coach George Isabirye and his assistant Henry Acidri, an amazing defending mind as well as unrelenting scoring of players like Victor Obedmoth came to play.

However, the stiff competition is still in the silver medal bracket where KU, MAK, and Kyambogo are still on the battlefield and they all have the chance of escaping with something.

Henry Acidri the Ndejje assistant head coach said he knew his team was going to perform to his expectations.

"We came here as defending champions both in the national league as well as the 2019 games victor and no doubt that gave us the confidence of beating everyone. I want to commend my team for the teamwork and discipline they have exhibited throughout," said Acidri.

Meanwhile, in the women's category, Victoria University also registered an easy victory 23-14 against KU to reignite their hopes of winning gold on their debut.

They are also unbeaten from the previous three matches including a walkover against KU yesterday.

Victoria head coach Ismail Bazanye commended his troops for putting up an outstanding performance.

" We came confidently in these games to take gold despite our competition in such games for our very first time. I want to thank my girls for putting up a good show, they remained composed and equal to the challenge, they have made me happy because what I told them is exactly what they stuck on to," said Bazanye.
