The National Council of Sports (NCS) Assistant General Secretary, Milton Chebet, has urged handball players to focus on their professional careers and digital presence to unlock international opportunities.
Chebet made the appeal on Monday during the official flag-off ceremony of the National Women's Handball Team, ahead of their departure to Kibaha, Tanzania, on Tuesday for the IHF Women's Trophy Zone V Championship.
"As a government, we are committed to promoting sports through funding. However, what we demand in return is absolute accountability—not just for financial resources, but also in terms of activity reports and international results," Chebet emphasiSed.
He further advised the squad to leverage modern media to elevate their profiles. "For you athletes, make full use of this digital era. Publicize the sport you participate in on your Instagram, X, and other social media platforms. That is what markets you as global brand ambassadors," he added.

The regional tournament is scheduled to run from November 4–8 in Kibaha, Tanzania, with the top two finishing teams securing automatic qualification for the continental Africa Cup.
Uganda Handball Federation (UHF) President Fredrick Balenzi lauded the International Handball Federation (IHF) and the government, through the NCS, for their vital support toward the team's campaign.
"We are humbled that the NCS has recognized our efforts and officially flagged us off. The IHF has fully supported this team in terms of transport, accommodation, and meals. Our only remaining hurdle is securing the full allowances for the players," Balenzi stated.
Uganda has sent a formidable 16-woman squad fully focused on winning the championship and booking a spot on the continental stage.
