The Namuwongo Blazers have defended the National Basketball League (NBL)  championship, downing the City Oilers 81-74 in overtime of Game 7 of the Finals in Hoima Stadium Arena.

Finals MVP Nyembo Fataki exploded for a game-high 35 points, going 13-for-21 from the field to inspire the Blazers in the biggest game of his two-year NBL career.

Nyembo has been exceptional for Namuwongo, but this championship was ultimately a collective effort from the deepest team in the division.

Jimmy Enabu and Anthony Chukurwa contributed 12 points apiece and all three Namuwongo stars were visibly emotional at the end of the game, falling on the floor in tears.

The Oilers too were emotional but for different reasons. Patrick Rembert led them in scoring again with 27 points but only Fayed Bbaale  and Landry Ndikumana reached double figures among the other Oilers.

The Oilers attempted 25 threes and converted just eight. By contrast, the Blazers were 3-for-15.

Still, after four quarters, both sides were tied  66-66.

Stephen Nyeko's Namuwongo were not done, outscoring the Oilers 15-8.

The victory was sure, the championship defended.
