The third Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club Homecoming Golf Tournament, scheduled for October 9, will celebrate both Uganda’s independence and the club’s 66th anniversary.

Club chairman Herbert Kamuntu announced the event at a Friday press conference, inviting Namulonge alumni to return and celebrate the club’s progress.

“The club is now 66 years old, and for this tournament, we're thrilled to have a hole-in-one sponsorship. CFAO is offering a Suzuki A-cross and a Yamaha bike for anyone who hits a hole-in-one on two specific holes,” Kamuntu said.

“AFRICEF is our event insurer and has partnered with us to make this reunion memorable. We expect over 120 players, and the Independence Day timing aligns well with the club’s journey and future direction.”

He noted that the reunion has traditionally raised funds to improve club facilities.

“Our members’ generosity has enabled us to purchase new equipment, and we are now planning to expand the golf course. The reunion is an opportunity to share development plans with current and former members,” Kamuntu said, joined by club captain Tim Lwanga, vice-captain Kenneth Tumusiime, and sponsors’ representatives Arnold Baguma (Africef Insurance Brokers) and Howard Wodomal (CFAO Mobility).

Baguma, head of business development, expressed excitement about sponsoring the tournament. “As insurance brokers, we manage risk and prepare for the unexpected. This time, we look forward to a rare event with exciting prizes. We hope to see a winner,” Baguma said.

Wodomal stated they aim to make the homecoming event special. “We believe mobility is more than transportation; it is about partnerships, relationships, and experiences,” he said.

“We partnered with AFRICEF to offer the Suzuki A-Cross, our top model, which aligns with our vision and complements the golf course’s natural beauty. As a hybrid, it is fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly. We are also offering a Yamaha, which we believe is a premium bike suited for golfers. Our goal is to provide the best mobility solutions,” Wodomal said.

Tournament director Tumusiime promised a well-organised event with attractive prizes and a well-maintained course. Kachain Logistics and Castle Lite Beer co-sponsor the event. The Namulonge course is one of the oldest golf courses in the country, boasting a membership of about 300 people, and is regarded as the ‘academy’ of golf in Uganda.
