MYDA FC emerged victorious in the third edition of the Emorimor Cup, which concluded on October 25, 2025, in Bukedea District.
The two-week tournament featured 54 teams and drew hundreds of enthusiastic supporters to Emokor Grounds for the final showdown.
The Tororo-based side clinched the title with a commanding 3–1 win over Takan Aliba FC from Soroti City. First-half goals from Gabriel Odeke, Stephen Emesu, and Julius Okiring gave MYDA a comfortable lead, while Takan Aliba’s Richard Okello managed a consolation goal in the 67th minute, despite several missed opportunities.
“Our mission in Bukedea was clear—to win the trophy, and we’ve done just that for the first time since the tournament began in 2022,” said MYDA head coach Denis Ayeet. He noted that his team had already figured out Takan Aliba’s style of play, having defeated them earlier in the group stage.
Ayeet extended his gratitude to the Tororo community and local leadership for their unwavering support throughout the tournament. “From training to the final match, their backing has been invaluable. May the Almighty bless everyone who contributed to this noble cause,” he said.
Looking ahead, Ayeet expressed his ambition to bring the East Africa Secondary Schools Sports trophy home to Uganda from Kenya.
Takan Aliba’s coach, Ronald Elyanu, congratulated MYDA FC on their win. “My boys gave it their all, but luck wasn’t on our side,” he admitted.
The closing ceremony was presided over by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, who represented President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. She commended Teso’s cultural leader, His Royal Highness Paul Sande Etomeileng Emolot III, for his hospitality and efforts in fostering unity among the Iteso people.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the President during Emolot’s third coronation anniversary, Museveni praised the Emorimor and the Iteso community for their accomplishments over the past three years. He lauded the Kingdom’s embrace of the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) vision for wealth creation and socio-economic transformation.
“Three years ago, you were entrusted with the mantle of presiding over the cultural affairs of your people. Today, we celebrate the achievements registered under your reign,” the President said. “Cultural leadership plays a vital role in preserving identity, language, customs, and traditions. I commend the Kingdom for mobilizing the community toward productive enterprise and embracing the NRM message.”
