Mukono Warriors crush Africa as T20 Championship gets underway

Mukono Warriors defeated Africa by 191 runs at Akbar Baig Cricket Ground before beating the same opponents by 99 runs in the second meeting as the 2026 national T20 championship got underway with eight fixtures at various locations on Sunday.

Harish Anandan scored a match-best 71 for Mukono, who won the toss and elected to bat in a decision that ultimately made the contest much longer than it probably needed to be because Warriors batted out their quota of overs and set a whopping 211 runs against opponents who were going to set a much lower score in reply.

Even then, it would have been hard to imagine that reply producing no more than 20 runs, particularly in a duration as long as 12.4 overs. This then was the most unlikely of contests on the opening weekend of the tournament, a fact that was proved by the second meeting between the two sides in the afternoon.

It was still one-sided, with Mukono winning by 99 runs, but the circumstances were not as exaggerated. Geoffrey Kakaire was the player of the former match, scoring 20 off 19 as the Warriors raced to their huge score before returning to pick 4/1 in 2.4 overs.
