Muhameed draws on Birmingham experience as She Cranes chase podium in Glasgow

Experienced She Cranes player Haniisha Muhameed is determined to use the lessons from her previous Commonwealth Games appearance to help Uganda challenge for a podium finish at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The versatile player, who features as both a goal shooter and goalkeeper, will be making her second appearance at the multi-sport event after playing a key role in Uganda's memorable campaign at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Muhameed was part of the She Cranes squad that produced the team's best-ever Commonwealth Games performance, finishing fifth. The achievement surpassed the team's debut campaign in 2018.

With the Glasgow Games scheduled for July 23 to August 2, Muhameed believes the experience gained in Birmingham has prepared both her and the team for an even bigger challenge.

"It is such a huge tournament. It is where you get to play against the best players in the world, and it is exciting to be part of it again," Muhameed said.

"I have been preparing really well. I have been working hard as an individual, but also collectively as a team. We know what it takes to compete at this level, and we are ready to give our best."

Muhameed acknowledges that representing Uganda comes with enormous responsibility, especially after the team's recent rise on the international stage.

"The expectations are always high when you are part of the She Cranes. Winning a medal would be a great achievement for the team, but the most important thing is to go out there and compete in every game," she said.

"When you get the opportunity to step onto the court, you have to play hard. Representing Uganda comes with a lot of pressure and many expectations from your teammates, coaches and the fans. I know there will be pressure this year, but I am looking forward to it."

The She Cranes will be making their third appearance in the Commonwealth Games since debuting in 2018.
