Alfred Mudekereza leaves Vipers SC as one of the club's most successful foreign players after four memorable years at St. Mary's Stadium, Kitende.
The Congolese goalkeeper played a key role in one of the greatest moments in the club's history and leaves with several major trophies to his name.
Mudekereza joined the Uganda Premier League (UPL) champions in 2022 from DR Congo side OC Bukawa Dawa and quickly established himself as Vipers' first-choice goalkeeper.
His greatest contribution came during the 2022 CAF Champions League final preliminary round against DR Congo giants TP Mazembe. After both legs ended in goalless draws, the tie was decided by penalties in Lubumbashi.
Mudekereza produced a series of outstanding saves throughout the match before becoming the hero in the shootout as Vipers won 4-2 on penalties.
The victory secured Vipers a historic place in the CAF Champions League group stage for the first time in the club's history as they also became just the second club after KCCA FC in 2018 to ever qualify for the group stages
On the domestic scene, Mudekereza also enjoyed a highly successful spell. He won three UPL titles, including last season's championship, and lifted the Uganda Cup twice.
However, his final two seasons were disrupted by injuries, limiting his appearances. At the same time, academy graduate Dennis Kiggundu impressed the technical team and eventually claimed the number one goalkeeper's position, making Mudekereza playing time even more limited.
In announcing his departure, Vipers thanked Mudekereza for his service and wished him success in the next chapter of his career.
“We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Mudekereza for his contribution over the last four seasons and wish him the very best for the future,” the club said.
Mudekereza follows former striker Cesar Manzoki as one of the Congolese players who made a lasting impact at Vipers through outstanding performances and silverware.
His departure is part of a wider squad rebuild at the club. Goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya, midfielder Tadeo Lwanga and defender Grant Matsiko have also been released as Vipers prepare for the 2026/27 season.
The club has already appointed French coach Denis Lavagne and strengthened the squad with the signings of Joel Sserunjogi, Nicholas Mwere and Jacques Mangoba.
More arrivals are expected as Vipers prepare for the CECAFA Kagame Cup, CAF Champions League qualifiers and the defence of their UPL title.
