Riders are enduring sleepless nights as tension and anticipation continue to mount ahead of the season-ending Mountain Dew National Motocross Championship event scheduled for this Sunday at Victoria Raceway Park in Garuga.

The seventh and final round of the motocross calendar promises an exhilarating showdown, with more than 83 riders intensifying their preparations in a bid to finish the season on a high.

Of the 13 categories contested this season, six have already produced champions ahead of the final round, leaving the remaining seven categories open for a final battle for supremacy.

Saad Nsambu has won the 50cc Junior category with 294 points, Roy Faith Kaye has secured the 50cc Junior Ladies title with 331 points, and Israel Mpuuga has been crowned champion in the 50cc Senior category with 332 points. Ariella Katende has clinched the 50cc Senior Ladies title, while Jamaira Nakumbi has emerged victorious in the MX Women Elite category with 340 points. Gift Malcom Ssebuguzi has also secured the MX2 championship with 340 points.

The real drama, however, lies in the seven categories where championship ambitions remain alive, with several riders separated by relatively narrow margins.

The 65cc category presents a compelling contest, with Jude Kyle Musede leading on 293 points. Emil Ssegirinya, on 244 points, trails by 49 points and will be looking to capitalise on any opportunity to close the gap in the decisive race.

In the 65cc Ladies category, Abigail Katende is in pole position with 305 points, while Joy Norah Akao follows with 270 points. Katende holds a 35-point lead, but the final round will determine whether she can convert that advantage into championship glory.

The 85cc category is also expected to deliver an intense battle. Jonathan Katende leads with 319 points, while Ethan Paul Musede remains in contention on 292 points, leaving a 27-point difference between the two.

The MX 125cc category is led by Miguel Katende, who has amassed 329 points, placing him 60 points ahead of Jerome Mubiru on 269 points. Katende will be seeking to consolidate his lead and secure the championship, while Mubiru will be aiming for the strongest possible finish.

The MX Women Open category offers one of the most intriguing storylines of the championship finale, with sisters Shamillah Kateete and Asia Kasirye battling for the top position.

Kateete currently leads with 309 points, while Kasirye sits second with 279 points, leaving a 30-point gap between the siblings.

The MX1 category promises one of the closest contests of the season, with Fatu Kiggundu leading the standings on 247 points and Ismail Mukiibi following closely with 236 points. The difference of just 11 points leaves the championship finely poised, setting the stage for a potentially dramatic showdown.

In the MX Vets category, Geofrey Kayiira leads with 280 points, while Shafik Babeyo occupies second place with 242 points, trailing by 38 points.

Kayiira will be eager to maintain his advantage and bring the season to a successful conclusion, but Babeyo remains mathematically in contention and will be determined to challenge for the title in the final round.
