Uganda’s motocross stars are capable of winning more silverware including continental titles if well-funded by the government.

The Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) deputy vice president in charge of motorcycling, noted this on Sunday after Team Uganda successfully defended the FIM Central Africa Motocross Championship in Nairobi.

“I’m happy that we have won this championship, but I am concerned with my riders. The national anthem was sung and the Uganda flag was flown high yet riders and rider parents funded themselves in this event,” Mayanja said.

“Just imagine if we had brought a full team. We would have won with a bigger margin and even got more podiums,” Mayanja added.

The team of 33 riders, received only sh5m from the federation which is not even enough to transport bikes alone.

Uganda had planned to field a team of 61 riders but because of a lack of funding, only 33 riders who could afford to facilitate themselves represented Uganda.

Kisitu further contends that Ugandan riders are capable of competing at world championships and the World Mini Championships, but are incapable when not funded.
