Moroto dominates Karamoja Games

Moroto District excelled in the 2022 Karamoja Games that climaxed on Saturday at Nakapiripirit Primary School playgrounds.
The marble mineral-rich district were exceptional as they were crowned champions in netball and football.
The mid-north eastern district overcame Nabilatulak 29-20 in a thrilling netball final.
In football, Moroto edged hosts Nakapiripirit 1-0 courtesy of Emmy Brian Akol’s sole strike.
However, Kotido district snatched the athletics overall trophy with 29 points ahead of Moroto’s 26 points and Amudat in the third position with 22 points.

Kotido’s Margret Lokodo won the women's 5km race as she clocked 12:10.03 to defeat her challenger Ashriva Manang who managed to cross the line with 12:30.01.
Sabina Namuya took the first position in the women’s 10-kilometre race with 21:50. 13 against 22:27.17 obtained by Rose Mary Nakut in the second place.
In a related development, Mark Lokut of Moroto won a 10-kilometer men’s race with 18:30.01 against 18:45.09 clocked by Alexander Okiring of Amudat.
Other sporting disciplines such as woodball and volleyball were attained by Kaabong and Amudat districts accordingly.
Aggrey Mugisha, the CEO at YOtv Channels was left delighted by the overwhelming passion of the Karamoja people in the games that are targeted at preaching unity.
“I have proved that unity is very possible than war and infighting. Seeing the people participate with passion is a great achievement,” said Mugisha.

Richard Okot, the chairperson of the Karamoja Games was happy with the turn-up of the teams and participants in the respective sports disciplines.
“Karamoja Games are getting bigger and better. We had disciplines of football, netball, athletics, volleyball, and woodball which were played for the first time. It is encouraging to see the people come and participate. We shall hold the games once again next year and call upon more partners on board,” said Richard Okot,
Karamoja Games bring together the nine districts of Karamoja sub region such as Moroto, Nakapiripirit, Abim, Napak, Nabilatuk, Kaabong, Karenga, Kotido and Amudat.
Women Players were awarded Holic pads, knickers, soap, lotion, and washing buckets courtly of YOtv and Movit group of companies.
